This Easy Design Trick Will Make Your Curtains Look High-End

Velvet curtains are amazing for adding texture and luxury to a space. The only catch? They can end up doubling as blackout curtains due to the thickness of the fabric. For some people, this might be ideal ... but if you're not a fan of the look, we've got the perfect trick for you.

The design idea was shared byTikTok user @oliveandoakhome, who had this exact issue. "I love the pop of color in the velvet, but I don't love blackout curtains in this space," the content creator shared in their caption.

So, @oliveandoakhome layered the velvet curtains with white linen ones, which turned out to an excellent solution. "The white linen curtains help filter the light while keeping it bright and airy," said the creator.

To layer the different types of curtains, @oliveandoakhome started by installing a double curtain rod. Next, they hung white linen curtains on the back side and lush velvet curtains on the front. (The white linen curtains are the Ritva curtains from IKEA, in case you're wondering.)

This way, when the sun is too bright (or you just want some privacy), you can pull out the linen curtains and keep the velvet ones open. The result will be a high-end look that still filters the light.

As one user noted, the look is reminiscent of curtains in hotel rooms. And honestly, we can see it! Layering curtains of different fabrics and thicknesses is such an easy, simple way of giving your space a stylish luxury feel.
