EVERYTHING You Need To Combat A Mosquito Problem
If you're like many of us, right this very moment you're dealing with a mosquito problem. And when it comes to mosquitoes, it's usually a big problem. Nothing subtle about those insects.
First, check to make sure you don't have any standing water — that's where mosquitoes like to live and breed. Clear out your gutters, change water in your birdbath or blow-up pool, empty potted plant trays, put away toys, and make sure your fountain or in ground/above ground pool has proper circulation. You might be surprised to find places where you have standing water somewhere on your balcony, patio, or backyard. (Even just a puddle needs to go! Refill it with dirt.)
Then, find an EPA-approved insect repellent that's effective and, more importantly, safe to use. Keep it within reach, both indoors and out. The EPA has a helpful search tool that'll help you choose an appropriate repellent product.
For a natural solution, consider planting herbs (like these shade-loving plants) around your outdoor area. Thai lemongrass works really well since lemongrass contains citronella oil, so, plan on placing a few of these perennials around your outdoor space to keep those annoying insects at bay. Other herbs to include are lavender, basil, lemon balm, and peppermint.
