Any rattan chair will work, such as the IKEA Buskbo armchair. The earthy green color can go with just about anything — it looks perfect with fluffy off-white pillows, light pink pops of color, and plants. Scroll down for our tips and tricks on re-inventing your rattan furniture.

Things Needed

Step 1

Gently remove any dust and rattan strands using a scrub brush. If you are painting a thrifted or older rattan chair, you will also need to gently sand the chair arms and legs if it had been painted before.

Step 2

Place the chair on a protective drop cloth in a well ventilated area. Apply spray paint in light coats — about five coats for an even, no drip look. Allow to dry completely. (Spray paint is the best type of paint to use for rattan and wicker.)

Step 3

Be sure to flip the chair and paint under and on the sides. You'll need to evenly paint the chair from all angles.

After you have applied multiple coats of spray paint, allow the chair to completely dry. If the chair will be used in a covered porch or patio, we recommend adding a clear protective finish.
