How To Remove Oil Based Paint From Clothing

Whichever method you try, test it out on a small hidden area of the fabric first for colorfastness.
Warning
Do not put clothes in the dryer until the stain is removed, otherwise the heat will set it in there permanently. Do not use mineral spirits on delicate fabrics.
Cleaning oil-based paints from clothing is one of the first things painting instructors teach. Most of the time when you spill oil-based paints on your clothing, it will be stuck there forever, but if you catch it soon enough, these tips may work like a charm to remove the paint and keep your clothes from the rag pile.
Step 1
Apply a couple drops of liquid dish soap onto the paint stain. Let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub it with your fingernail or toothbrush. Rinse the piece of clothing and examine the results. Repeat if necessary.
Step 2
Scrub hand sanitizer into the area if the dish soap fails to remove the stain.
Step 3
Pour rubbing alcohol or nail polish over the stain, if neither of the soap methods work to remove the stain. Scrub with a toothbrush and rinse off the solution.
Step 4
Mix a solution of hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol. Massage the mixture into the paint spot and then scrape over the paint spot off with a butter knife.
Step 5
Run the clothing through the washing machine.
