How To Remove Hand Sanitizer Stains From Wood

Tip
Cover wood flooring or tabletops to protect them from spills. Use rugs on the floor and tablecloths or place mats on tables. Purchase rottenstone at a hardware stone. Use ground pumice for more severe stains. Buff the wood with the pumice paste before switching to the rottenstone paste.
Hand sanitizer is effective for cleaning hands and killing germs when regular hand washing isn't possible. Since hand sanitizer is a clear liquid cleaner it doesn't pose dye stain problems. But the alcohol in the cleanser that helps to kill germs can damage the finish on a wood surface. When removed quickly, the damage caused by hand sanitizer can be kept to a minimum. But if time has gone by and the sanitizer has started to wear away the finish, you can get rid of the stain and restore the appearance of your wood surface with proper techniques and supplies.
Step 1
Absorb hand sanitizer on the wood surface by pressing a cloth onto the wood.
Step 2
Dampen a clean cloth. Drop 1 tsp. of cigar ash onto the moist cloth. Allow the ash to sit for a minute to absorb moisture from the cloth.
Step 3
Rub the moist cigar ash into the hand sanitizer stain left on the wood surface. Buff the wood for two minutes. Wipe the ash from the surface with a damp cloth.
Step 4
Treat remaining alcohol stain on the wood surface with a paste made from ground rottenstone and lemon oil. Mix the two ingredients together in a bowl. Apply the paste to the wood surface. Buff the wood with the rottenstone paste for one to two minutes.
Step 5
Wipe the wood with a damp cloth to remove the paste. Dry with another cloth.
Step 6
Restore moisture in the wood by applying wood polish. Rub the polish into the wood with a clean cloth. Wipe away excess polish and allow the surface to dry.
