How To Get Gum Out Of Bed Sheets

Things Needed

  • WD-40

  • Toothbrush

  • Laundry soap

Warning

WD-40 has a strong odor and unhealthy fumes. According to the WD-40 safety information on the product's website, it is important to use the product in a well-ventilated area.

The WD-40 safety information also suggests avoiding skin contact, eye contact and ingestion, as well as keeping the product way from flames.

Accidentally falling asleep while chewing gum and then waking up to gum stuck in the sheets can be annoying. Gum will often not come out with a normal wash in the washing machine, and it leaves sheets sticky and dirty-looking. Luckily, it is possible to remove gum from sheets or other fabric using WD-40, a common rust-removing and lubricating product, in just a few easy steps.

How to Get Gum Out of Bed Sheets

Step 1

Buy WD-40. It is relatively cheap (usually $3 to $5) and can be found at most hardware and home improvement stores.

Step 2

Spray WD-40 on the gum spots. Make sure to spray enough WD-40 on the gum spots so that they are completely covered in the liquid.

Step 3

Let the WD-40 set on the sheets and soak into the gum spots for several minutes.

Step 4

Using a toothbrush, rub the gum off of the bed sheets. The WD-40 will unstick the gum from the sheets and a toothbrush will remove it from the fabric easily.

Step 5

After the gum is removed from the sheets, they will still have some WD-40 on them. To remove the chemical smell of the WD-40 and get sheets clean enough to use again, wash them in the washing machine with detergent as you normally would.
