Mold and mildew commonly appear in areas of the home where excess moisture can accumulate, such as a basement, kitchen or bathroom. There are many different ways that you can remove mold from an area, such as a basement floor, but by using chlorinated lime fertilizer to kill the mold, you can also get rid of the smell. Before removing mold or mildew with lime fertilizer, you should know the proper tools to use and how to properly apply the fertilizer.
Step 1
Put on protective gloves and put warm water into a bucket. Scrub the moldy area using a large brush and warm water.
Step 2
Spread a thin layer of chlorinated lime fertilizer over the mildew so that the entire area is covered.
Step 3
Allow the fertilizer to sit on the moldy area for at least 10 minutes. Once you no longer can smell the mold odor, you can remove the fertilizer.
Step 4
Sweep up all of the fertilizer using a broom and dustpan. Place the used fertilizer in a large garbage bag.
Step 5
Reapply more lime fertilizer if the mold or mold smell persists, and try leaving the fertilizer on the area for a longer period of time.
