Tip
Scuffs are common behind shoe racks, as many people inadvertently kick the wall while removing their shoes or placing them in the rack. If possible, move the shoe rack into an open area to help protect the wall.
Though you clean your floors regularly, it's easy to forget the baseboards, which cover the joint formed by the floor and the wall. Baseboards, especially at corners, often get scuffed by shoes. After you remove the scuff marks, encourage your family members and guests to wear shoes with non-marking soles, or avoid wearing shoes in the house altogether.
Step 1
Vacuum the dust off the baseboards. Removing the dust will allow you to see the scuff marks clearly.
Step 2
Fill a bucket with warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Dip a rag into the solution, ring it out slightly, and scrub the scuff marks. Most of the marks should lift, while others may need further attention.
Step 3
Dip a scrubbing pad into the soap solution, and use it to scrub the scuff marks. The abrasiveness of the pad will remove difficult scuff marks without damaging the baseboards.
Step 4
Squeeze toothpaste containing baking soda onto the scrubbing pad, and scrub the marks. Baking soda toothpaste is an effective household scuff remover that will lift scuffs quickly and easily. Clean the area with a damp rag to remove toothpaste residue.
