How To Reset A LiftMaster Garage Door

If you've recently purchased a house that has a door opener installed, you're moving back in after renting, or you gave your neighbor or caretaker your keypad code while you were out of town, it's a good idea to reset both the remote control and keyless entry keypad.

How to Reset/Reprogram a LiftMaster Remote Control

Using the "Learn" Button:

  1. Press and release the "learn" button on the opener's motor unit. The button's indicator light will illuminate continuously for 30 seconds.
  2. During those 30 seconds, press down and hold the "learn" button on the handheld remote control you want to use to operate the garage door.
  3. When the motor unit's light begins blinking, release the remote button. If the unit doesn't have a lightbulb, you'll hear two clicks instead.
  4. Test the remote to make sure it activates the door. If not, repeat the process.

  2. Press and hold the remote control's "enter" button and the multifunction door control's "light" button at the same time.
  3. While holding the "enter" and "light" buttons, press the multifunction door control's push bar. You will be holding a total of three buttons at once.
  4. When the motor unit's lights begin to blink, release all three buttons. If the unit isn't equipped with a lightbulb, you'll hear two clicks instead.
  5. Test the multifunction door control to make sure it activates the door. If not, repeat the process.

How to Reset a LiftMaster Keyless Entry Keypad

Using the "Learn" Button:

  1. Press and release the "learn" button on the opener's motor unit. The button's indicator light will illuminate for 30 seconds.
  2. During those 30 seconds, enter your desired 4-digit personal identification number (PIN) on the keypad. Press and hold the keypad's "enter" button.
  3. When the motor unit's light begins blinking, release the "enter" button. If the unit doesn't have a lightbulb, you'll hear two clicks.
  4. Test the keypad to make sure it activates the door. If not, repeat the process.

Tip

These steps require an additional person if the keypad is installed outside the garage door.

  1. Enter your desired 4-digit PIN on the keypad.
  2. Press and hold the keypad's "enter" button and the multifunction door control's "light" button at the same time.
  3. While holding the "enter" and "light" buttons, press the multifunction door control's push bar.
  4. When the motor unit's lights begin to blink, release the buttons. If the unit doesn't have a lightbulb, you'll hear two clicks.
  5. Test the keypad to make sure it activates the door.
