How To Clean Vinyl Siding With Vinegar

Things Needed

  • Garden hose

  • Bucket

  • White vinegar

  • Long-handled, soft-bristled scrub brush

Tip

Rinse your scrub brush often as it becomes dirty.

Warning

If you are using a ladder to reach high parts of the siding, have someone hold the ladder for you. Use extreme caution when working on a ladder. Wear rubber-soled shoes with good gripping to prevent slipping.

Never mix cleaning products — especially vinegar and bleach. The results can be toxic.

Vinyl siding is durable, but it is still susceptible to dirt and stains. Whether your vinyl siding is plagued by mildew, moss, algae, or it's just plain dirty, cleaning it is a must in maintaining the appearance of your house. Although there are plenty of products on the market for cleaning vinyl siding, you likely have all you need right at home: white vinegar. A natural and eco-friendly vinyl siding cleaner, vinegar will remove tough stains and leave your siding squeaky clean.

Step 1

Spray the siding with water from the garden hose to remove loose dirt and debris. Fill a bucket with a solution of 30 percent white vinegar and 70 percent warm water.

Step 2

Dip a long-handled, soft-bristled scrub brush into the cleaning solution. Scrub the dirty vinyl siding vertically, starting at the bottom and working your way toward the top. Work in sections, so the cleaning solution doesn't dry on the siding, causing streaks before you have a chance to rinse it off.

Step 3

Rinse each section of the vinyl siding with plain water from the garden hose, working from the top of the structure downward. Continue the process of scrubbing a section from the bottom up, then rinsing from the top down, until the entire surface has been cleaned.
