How To Troubleshoot A Colibri Lighter

The name Colibri is recognized by many individuals as a manufacturer of quality butane gas lighters. Used for a variety of lighting purposes, Colibri produces a line of torch lighters, for example, specifically aimed at the cigar enthusiast. Over a period of time lighters, including those made by Colibri, can require some basic troubleshooting to correct operating issues that result from normal use. Following a few simple steps can often resolve problems and restore operating efficiency.
Step 1
Hold the Colibri lighter and attempt ignition. Press the ignition button, slide the cover or otherwise release the butane gas and ignite the fuel based on the lighter design. Observe how or if the lighter ignites and the behavior of the flame if produced.
Step 2
Bleed any remaining fuel and air in the tank before adding butane fuel if the lighter will not ignite. Turn the flame height setting to minimum or minus (-) with a blade screwdriver. Depress the fuel-fill nozzle with the screwdriver blade and allow remaining fuel and air to escape.
Step 3
Fill the Colibri lighter with butane fuel. Turn the lighter upside down and press the valve on the butane fuel canister to the fill nozzle on the lighter. Allow the tank in the lighter to completely fill with butane fuel. Turn the flame control to the desired setting and attempt to ignite the lighter.
Step 4
Clean the ignition coils inside the burner if the Colibri lighter will not ignite. Place the directional nozzle on a can of compressed air and blow any dirt and carbon deposits from the ignition coils. Hold the nozzle of the compressed air at least 1 to 2 inches from the coils to avoid damage.
Step 5
Change the flame height adjustment with a screwdriver if the flame is too high or too low. Turn the height adjustment toward minus (-) if the flame is too high and toward plus (+) if it is too low. Make the adjustments based on the job and personal preference.
