How To Remove A Lutron Switch Plate
Tip
Place a paper towel between the blade of your flathead screwdriver and the wall to avoid marking your wall as you are prying the frame off the switch plate.
Warning
Do not try to "pop" off the switch plate frame by prying it from one point only; you could crack the frame itself and have to replace the entire switch plate.
Lutron switch plates provide a sleek and modern look to any room because they are designed without the normal attaching screws. The smooth surface of a Lutron plate may be beautiful, but it's also baffling if you need to remove the plate for cleaning or to access the actual switch. The process to remove a Lutron switch plate is surprisingly easy and the only tool you need is one you most likely already have.
Step 1
Turn off the power supply to the room in which you are removing the Lutron switch plate. Your fuse box should be labeled by each fuse switch and the room it controls. If it isn't, turn one at a time off and check the room for power by trying to turn a light switch on.
Step 2
Pry the frame off the switch plate using a flathead screwdriver. Do this very gently, working around the frame and prying just a small amount as you go. When the frame is loose, pull it the rest of the way off.
Step 3
Pry the switch plate up from beneath the clips that were hidden by the frame with the flat head screwdriver. Depending on which model Lutron switch plate you have, there may be an additional screw holding it in place in the center. If so, remove it.
Step 4
Pull the switch plate from the switch box. There will be two wires connecting the switch plate to your house electrical wiring. Pinch each wire between your thumb and forefinger and pull them out of the pressure clip holding them in place in the back of the switch plate.
