How To Remove The Top Of A Maytag Washing Machine
Things Needed
-
Phillip's screwdriver
-
Small ratchet with 3/8-inch head
-
Flat screwdriver
Tip
Do not force the front panel off or force the lid to hinge up. If excessive force is necessary, then look for the cause.
A few Maytag models have plastic snaps on the two bottom corners of the front panel instead of screws. If there are no screws on the front panel of your machine, then slip your flat screwdriver between the side and the front panel approximately 3 inches from the floor. Locate the clips by feel and push in slightly on them with your screwdriver until they snap out as you pull forward on the bottom edge of the front panel.
Many parts of a Maytag washing machine are easy to work on, but in order to get to almost anything inside a Maytag washer you first need to remove the front cover and then lift up the top of the machine. Fortunately, Maytag makes this part of the job very simple.
Step 1
Unplug the washing machine. This is a safety precaution any time you are opening the machine.
Step 2
Locate two screws approximately 4 inches off the floor near the two lower-front corners of the machine. Remove these screws with your Phillip's screwdriver.
Step 3
Pull out on the bottom of the front panel of the machine and then pull down to unsnap the two plastic clips at the top of the front panel. Once the two top clips have unhooked, remove the front panel entirely and set it aside.
Step 4
Lift the front edge of the top of the machine. It is hinged in back, and the front will simply lift up.
Step 5
Locate the two 3/8 inch machine bolts in the upper-right-hand corners of the front of the machine if the top of the washer will not simply hinge upward. Remove these two bolts with your ratchet and set them aside. Now lift up on the front edge of the top of the machine; it is hinged in the back and should lift up and back.
