How To Remove The Front Panel Of A GE Washer
Tip
You can replace the front panel by pushing the front panel up under the edge of the top of the machine until the two top clips snap back into place. Then push the bottom of the front panel back into place until the two lower clips snap tight.
Warning
Do not use too much pressure when pushing on the top clips with your putty knife. You merely want to disengage the clip, not break it.
GE washers are relatively easy to work on but getting to any of the interior parts of the washer requires that you remove the front panel. Fortunately, GE has seen fit to make this process fairly easy. The following instructions should work for most models of GE washing machines made in 1995 or later.
Step 1
Unplug the washing machine. Even though you will not come into contact with any electrical components as you remove the front panel, it is simply a good safety measure to always unplug any appliance before working on it.
Step 2
Slip a putty knife between the top of the washing machine and the top edge of the front panel approximately 3 inches in from the left edge of the washer. Feel for a plastic clip with the putty knife. When you find the clip, carefully position the putty knife on the front side of the clip and push in on the knife until the clip disengages. Lift up slightly on the top of the machine, just enough to pull the clip out of the top edge of the front panel.
Step 3
Repeat Step 2 on the right side of the washer. Once the top right side is released, you can swivel the entire top of the front panel towards you.
Step 4
Lift up slightly on the front panel until the two plastic clips at the bottom of the front panel disengage. Pull the bottom edge of the front panel directly toward you. You have now removed the front panel of your GE washer.
