The Location Of The Drain Pump Filter In A Whirlpool Duet Washer

Things Needed

  • Helper

  • 2 blocks of 2-by-4 wood (1-foot long)

  • 1/4-inch nut driver

Tip

Once you clean out the filter, reassemble the parts in the reverse order.

When you notice your Whirlpool Duet washer is draining slow, it might be due to debris in the drain pump filter. The drain pump on the Whirlpool Duet has a clean out filter that catches debris and small clothing items that may enter the drain hose. This filter prevents the drain pump motor from clogging, which may result in damage to the pump. The location of the drain pump filter in a Whirlpool Duet washer is accessible through the lower access panel below the washer door.

Step 1

Unplug your Whirlpool Duet washer power cord from the wall outlet. Ask a friend to help lift the front of the washer up and slide a 2-by-4 block of wood under each side. Gently lower the washer over the wood blocks.

Step 2

Find the screws securing the lower access panel to the washer cabinet. There is a screw near each end and one in the center on the bottom edge of the access panel.

Step 3

Remove the screws with a 1/4-inch nut driver. Pull the bottom of the access panel toward you and pull it down to release it from the washer. The drain pump is under the Duet washer drum and has two hoses.

Step 4

Twist the white cap of the drain pump that points away from the washer counterclockwise with your hands. Pull the cap out bringing the drain pump filter with the cap. The drain pump filter attaches to the back of the cap.
