Frigidaire Oven Instructions

Though ovens are often fairly universal when it comes to operation, care, safety and use, instructions vary slightly from brand to brand and model to model. If you have a Frigidaire oven and have misplaced the owner's manual, or are new to your home or apartment and never had a chance to review it, you're in luck. Many of the manufacturer's oven manuals have been digitized and are available online.

Installing the Oven

If you're installing a new Frigidaire oven, you should begin by removing all packaging materials and tape. Properly dispose of all such materials, and keep them out of reach of children.

Before plugging in or powering on your oven, be sure it has been in an area with temperatures of at least 32 degrees Fahrenheit for at least three hours. You can damage the oven if you attempt to heat it immediately after bringing it in from a very cold place.

Your oven should always be properly grounded. Be sure that the outlet you plug it into is the correct voltage and has been installed and inspected by a qualified electrician.

If you previously stored flammable items, such as paper, plastic or cloth, near your oven's new location, they should be moved elsewhere. Keeping a fire extinguisher on hand and near the appliance (but not so near it will overheat) is a good idea.

Using the Oven

Before turning the oven on, set the racks inside to the desired location. Be sure that pans and baking dishes will have plenty of room and won't touch the oven top or rack above. Don't overfill baking pans.

Never use a broiler pan without an insert. Inserts catch the fat that renders off meat and prevent it from dripping onto the oven's heating elements.

In addition, you should never cook food on the base of the oven itself. Instead, always place food in an oven-safe baking dish and place it on a rack.

On the cooktop, you should use quality cookware with heavy bottoms to ensure even and quick cooking. Check to be sure that the amount of food in the pan is appropriate for the size of the pan. It will cook more quickly and evenly if it does. Also, the pan's size should correspond to the size of the burner. Don't use a small pan on your cooktop's largest burner.

Set the temperature on the oven and let it preheat. Once it beeps, it has reached its assigned temperature. To put your food into the oven, open the door with caution and place your baking dish inside. Be sure to wear oven mitts before handling hot food or putting your hands into the oven. Mitts should always be dry, as wet fabric can conduct heat.

For best results, place baking dishes on multiple racks rather than crowded together. Once you've placed your dishes in the oven, close the door and set the timer. Keep an eye on your food, as it may burn before you can smell that it has done so. When your food has finished cooking, remove the baking dish with oven mitts and set it on a hot plate or trivet. Turn off the oven.

Cleaning the Oven

When it comes to cleaning your oven, you should take care to avoid commercial cleaners if your appliance requires it. Many Frigidaire oven manuals specifically forbid these. Instead, use hot water and dish detergent. Wait until the oven is completely cooled before beginning to clean it.

Don't clean the oven door gasket, as it's essential for a good seal. Take care when cleaning not to rub, damage or move the gasket. Before using the oven's self-clean cycle, remove broilers, food, baking dishes, utensils or cookware. If the oven has a storage or warming drawer, pull it out and set it to the side. You should also remove the oven racks.
