How To Fix Rough Bottomed Dinner Plates
Things Needed
-
One emery board
-
Clear shellac
-
One thin paintbrush
Tip
Shellac is water resistant, so you can wash the plates.
Dinner plates with rough bottoms can cause huge scratches on a dinner or dining room table, and the scratches can be very difficult and time consuming to get out. Instead of dealing with the scratches on the table, try fixing the plates. Fixing the plates is not difficult and doesn't take a lot of time or money. The use of just two items can get the rough-bottomed plates smooth and ready for any surface.
Step 1
File the bottom of the plate with the emery board. Purchase a thick emery board (for acrylic nails).
Step 2
File down the plate until it begins to feel smoother.
Step 3
Purchase a clear or white shellac from your local hardware store. This will help coat the underside of the plate to keep it smooth.
Step 4
Brush the shellac onto the bottom of the plate very lightly. Let it dry for approximately 30 minutes.
Step 5
Reapply if necessary. After the shellac is dry, feel the bottom of the plate. If it is still a little rough, add more shellac to the plate.
