Super glue can be used around the home for various projects. It is best used for broken glass, crockery and other hard surfaces. Because it is a serious glue, it is not for use with kids' craft projects or for paper or other soft and porous materials. With the right ingredients and methods, you can make super glue at home so you always have it on hand for those quick projects.
Step 1
Mix 3 tablespoons of gum arabic with a 1/2 teaspoon of water and 1 tablespoon of glycerin.
Step 2
Stir in a bowl until thoroughly mixed. Do not heat or otherwise cook the mixture. It is ready to go once mixed.
Step 3
Apply a thin coat of the glue to both surfaces that you are trying to glue together. Use a matchstick or other small tool to spread the glue. Avoid getting the glue on your skin or clothing.
Step 4
Hold firmly or clamp together until glue dries, which could take up to an hour. Leave the project for 24 hours and let it set before using or washing.
Step 5
Pour leftover or extra homemade super glue in an airtight container. Keep for one year.
Tip
Purchase gum arabic in its powder form and glycerin in liquid form. Gum arabic is a strong sap taken from an acacia tree. Glycerin is a colorless liquid compound that helps maintain the moisture content of the glue. You can find both gum arabic and liquid glycerin at most arts and crafts stores.
