How To Set Up Landlines

Despite advancements in mobile communications, the landline telephone is still widely used by individuals and businesses. Most homes and almost all businesses still make and receive calls using landline phones. Landline phones may host more features than they did 20 years ago, but the technology is largely the same. Setting up a landline phone is a relatively simple task. It requires little time, effort and almost no additional equipment. You should be able to complete this task in less than 30 minutes.

Step 1

Plug one end of the telephone cable into the appropriate port on the base of your landline phone. The plugs on the end of the telephone cable are referred to as modular plugs. They are square-shaped and made of plastic. The corresponding port on your landline phone is also square-shaped. If you are having difficulty inserting the modular plug into your phone, try turning it around.

Step 2

Plug the other end of the telephone cable into the appropriate wall outlet. The wall outlet likely looks similar to a regular electrical outlet, except it has two square-shaped ports designed to accommodate a modular plug. You must install your landline phone in a room with the appropriate wall outlet or have a cable that is long enough to reach an outlet in another room. If you are having difficulty inserting the modular plug into the outlet, try turning it around.

Step 3

Insert the appropriate end of you phone's DC power adapter into the appropriate port on the base of your landline phone. The plug is likely small and circular. The corresponding port on the phone is also small and circular. Plug the other end of the DC power adapter into an electrical outlet.
