How To Fit A Queen Fitted Sheet To A Full Size Bed

Queen sized beds are slightly longer and wider than full sized beds. The fitted sheets that go on a queen sized bed will be loose on a full size unless you adjust them. Adjusting a queen sized fitted sheet to fit a full sized mattress is a simple process that you can complete with a sewing machine and a tape measure. By overlapping the fabric across the length and width of the sheet, you can turn a queen sized fitted sheet into a full sized one.

Step 1

Lay the queen sized fitted sheet on the full sized bed. Center the sheet so the elastic edges all hang down equally over the four sides.

Step 2

Stand to one side of the bed, facing the opposite side. Pull the loose fabric of the fitted sheet toward you, creating a 6-inch overlap down the middle of the length of the sheet. Use the tape measure to make sure the overlap is six inches down the entire length.

Step 3

Pin the fabric in place by placing fabric pins every 6 inches. Move to the foot of the bed and face the headboard.

Step 4

Pull the loose fabric at the bottom of the fitted sheet up, creating a 5-inch overlap in the fabric across the width of the sheet. Measure the overlap to ensure it is 5 inches wide across the entire sheet, then pin it in place.

Step 5

Transfer the fitted sheet to the sewing machine. Sew the 6-inch overlap down the length of the sheet in place, removing the fabric pins as you go. Make sure the overlap goes all the way to the elastic edges of the fabric.

Step 6

Sew the 5 inch overlap across the width of the sheet in place, removing pins as you go. Sew all the way to the elastic edges.
