How To Clean Soap Scum, Mildew And Mold From A Shower Stall

Soap scum is a dingy, gray and brown ring that forms on the bottom of your shower stall. The scum builds up over time and occurs when soap is mixed with the minerals found in hard water. The smelly, black and green spots and rings on the shower stall are mold and mildew stains, which grow with the assistance of the bathroom's humid air. Removing soap scum, mold and mildew from your shower stall will make your bath time more pleasant.

Step 1

Create a mixture of 1/2 cup water and 3 tbsp. baking soda. Continue to add baking soda to the mixture until a paste forms.

Step 2

Dip a plastic scrub brush into the mixture and work it into any soap scum that has accumulated on the walls and floor of the shower stall. Use a toothbrush to reach any difficult areas, such as grout or the track of the shower door.

Allow the mixture to remain for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing the solution away with warm water.

Fill a plastic spray bottle with a mixture of one part white vinegar and one part water.

Spray any mold and mildew, which will appear as black, green and brown spots on the surface of the shower stall, with the mixture.

Examine the shower stall. If there is any mold remaining, create a mixture of 1/2 cup chlorine bleach and 1 gallon water.

Step 5

Dip a plastic scrub brush and work the bleach solution into the affected area. Allow the bleach to remain for 20 minutes before rinsing it away.
