How To Kill Roaches Naturally With Sugar And Baking Soda
Baking soda and sugar is a tried-and-tested natural way to kill roaches. The pests are attracted to the smell of the sugar, while the baking soda ensures they won't survive.
Things Needed:
- Baking soda
- Granulated white sugar
- Plastic plates, used bottle tops or containers
- Powdered yeast or powdered vitamin C — optional
- Boric acid — optional
Step 1
Mix equal parts of baking soda and white granulated sugar. Steve Tvedten, who holds certifications in pest management, suggests adding powdered yeast or powdered vitamin C to the mixture — 45 percent baking soda, 45 percent sugar and 10 percent powdered yeast.
Step 2
Place the mixture in small plastic containers, used jar lids or small plates and position these wherever you have spotted roaches, such as under your kitchen sink or in the garden. Cockroaches like to hide in dark corners, so place your bait underneath kick plates, behind electrical outlets and around plumbing pipes.
Step 3
Check your containers every couple of days, and fill them up if necessary.
More tips
Store any leftover mixture in a sealed jar, clearly labelled so everybody in the family knows what it is.
Keep roaches at bay by keeping your house scrupulously clean. Roaches are attracted to food residue, dirt, grease and grime, so be vigilant about wiping down your kitchen counters, cleaning your stovetop, sweeping your floors and clearing away leftover foodstuffs, advises the article, "How to Get Rid of Roaches Naturally" on Mother Nature Network.
Seal all holes and cracks to keep roaches out of your home. Check your baseboards, inside your pantry, and where countertops meet walls. Caulk and a caulking gun will fill even the smallest of gaps.
Warning: Keep children and pets well away from your roach-killing mixture. Even non-toxic baits have still been in contact with dirty, bacteria-ridden roaches.
