How To Unclog Steam Mops
Things Needed
-
Paper clip
-
Vinegar
Tip
If you live in an area with hard water, consider using distilled water in your steam mop to avoid future clogs and extend the life of your mop.
Warning
Never operate your steam mop with vinegar in the water reservoir.
Steam mops offer the ability to clean and disinfect flooring surfaces of all types without the use of harsh chemicals, making them ideal for households with small children. Over time, hard water or other contaminants can clog the spray jet of your steam mop, making it no longer able to produce the steam required to clean your floors. If you suspect a clog in your steam mop, you can manually unclog the spray nozzle to get the steam working again.
Step 1
Unplug your steam mop and let it cool completely. Remove and empty the water reservoir.
Step 2
Locate the spray tip at the base of the steam mop. With some models, such as the Bissell Steam Mop, you may need to remove a screw at the base to access the spray tip.
Step 3
Insert a paperclip into the spray tip opening to remove any possible clog.
Step 4
Pour vinegar through the mop head to clear any clogs located there.
Step 5
Reassemble your steam mop and fill the reservoir with water before attempting to use it again.
