How To Remove Human Urine Stains From A Toilet Seat

  • Bowl

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

  • 1/4 cup baking soda

  • Old toothbrush

  • Clean wiping cloths

  • Liquid pet odor neutralizer

Tip

Keep a bottle of undiluted white vinegar on hand to spray the toilet seat after mishaps. This will eliminate any odor and prevent the stain from setting.

Use hydrogen peroxide or bleach on light-colored toilet seats.

Your toilet seat may often be exposed to human urine. Quick clean-up helps prevent staining and odor, but urine that lingers on the seat can lead to a smelly stain. When staining does occur, it's important to both the wipe the toilet seat clean and to remove any odor-causing bacteria that may produce unpleasant odors.

Step 1

Mix 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda in a bowl to produce a foamy paste. Vinegar and baking soda will foam when combined; this is normal and safe.

Step 2

Dip an old toothbrush into your vinegar and baking soda paste and scrub the urine stained area of your toilet seat. Rinse the toothbrush with water, and scrub more paste into the surface of your toilet seat. Allow the paste to sit on the toilet for 10 minutes. The baking soda and vinegar combination serves as a natural scouring cleanser that removes stains and deodorizes the surface.

Step 3

Soak a clean wiping cloth or rag with water and use it to wipe the vinegar and baking soda paste off your toilet seat. Dry the seat with a clean, dry cloth.

Step 4

Cover the stained area of your toilet seat with a pet odor neutralizer if additional deodorizing is necessary. Allow the neutralizer to remain on the surface for 20 minutes before rinsing off with water. Pet odor neutralizer has enzymes that break down and absorb odor-causing bacteria from urine.
