How To Clean Leather With Murphy Oil Soap

While most people associate Murphy Oil Soap with cleaning wooden surfaces such as floors and furniture, the soap is also safe for use on other household surfaces, including garments like leather. Leather furniture, accessories and clothing can be notoriously difficult to clean; using Murphy Oil Soap can prevent staining that other types of soap can leave behind. According to the Colgate company, which produces Murphy Oil Soap, the soap is safe for use on many such products.
Step 1
Wipe the leather surface with a clean white towel or rag. This will remove surface dust, dirt or other contaminants that can interfere with the cleaning process.
Step 2
Mix Murphy Oil Soap and water. For general cleaning, two to three drops of Murphy Oil mixed into 2 cups of water should suffice.
Step 3
Dampen a rag or sponge in the oil-water mixture. Squeeze the rag or sponge thoroughly so that it does not soak the leather.
Step 4
Gently rub the rag across a small area of your leather. Work in one small section at a time so that the leather does not absorb the water.
Step 5
Dry each section with a clean towel as you proceed. Continue until the leather is completely clean.
